Iconic Luxury Hotels

Iconic Luxury Hotels launched in December 2016 around distinctive British hotels including Chewton Glen, Cliveden House and 11 Cadogan Gardens. It later expanded into London townhouses, Venice and Palm Beach. In February 2026 Iconic Luxury Hotels and the wider L+R Hotels platform combined as Iconic Hotels & Resorts. LHL retains the historic code name, but the current public-facing business is broader than the original luxury collection.

The brand

Iconic Hotels & Resorts is the hotel operating platform of privately held L+R, founded by Ian and Richard Livingstone. It now describes itself as a global collection of luxury, lifestyle and full-service hotels rather than a pure luxury house. The original Iconic Luxury Hotels identity survives inside the Luxury Collection, while the wider platform also incorporates former L+R Hotels properties and third-party operating assignments.

The current website lists ten Luxury Collection properties, including Cliveden House, Chewton Glen, Palm House, Hotel Excelsior Venice Lido Resort, The Mayfair Townhouse, Gran Marbella, Nobu Hotel London Portman Square, 11 Cadogan Gardens, The Chelsea Townhouse and The Lygon Arms. The broader platform launched in February 2026 with fourteen properties across five countries. The portfolio therefore operates on two levels: a ten-hotel luxury collection and a wider multi-tier platform.

Philosophy

The original philosophy favoured individuality over brand replication. Country houses, heritage estates, London townhouses and coastal resorts were expected to preserve their own architecture, history and relationship with place. The current positioning keeps that principle: Iconic says it stewards each property with care, invests in people and creates environments where genuine hospitality can flourish.

The 2026 evolution adds an explicit owner-operator dimension. L+R presents Iconic as an integrated platform combining guest experience with owner-aligned performance. Design, operations, asset management and capital investment now sit closer together, while individual hotel identity remains deliberately visible.

What distinguishes it

Property identity comes first. Cliveden, Chewton Glen, The Lygon Arms and The Mayfair Townhouse are marketed primarily through their own names and stories. Iconic works as an endorsement and operating platform rather than a masterbrand that must dominate every façade.

Heritage and contemporary formats coexist. The collection can manage a historic country estate, a centuries-old coaching inn, a London townhouse, a Venice beach resort and a new Palm Beach hotel without forcing them into a single visual template.

Private ownership supports reinvestment. L+R combines hotel ownership, investment and operating expertise, allowing Iconic to link property-level capital projects with hotel management rather than rely only on franchise or management contracts.

The 2026 relaunch changes the category. Iconic Luxury Hotels was a clearly defined luxury collection; Iconic Hotels & Resorts is intentionally broader, spanning luxury, lifestyle and full-service hotels. For LHL, that evolution is itself a defining characteristic and should not be hidden.

Third-party operation is part of the model. The platform is not limited to wholly owned hotels. Properties such as 11 Cadogan Gardens and The Chelsea Townhouse demonstrate that Iconic can manage or operate hotels for external property owners while preserving an individual local identity.

WHO ICONIC LUXURY HOTELS IS NOT FOR

Iconic is a weak fit for travellers who want a standardised ultra-luxury product, a global points-based loyalty programme or assurance that every hotel belongs to the same tier. The platform deliberately spans luxury, lifestyle and full-service assets, so each property must be judged individually. Cliveden House, Palm House and The Mayfair Townhouse may share an operating culture, but their architecture, facilities and positioning are intentionally different.
