Dorchester Collection was founded in 2007 to bring famous luxury hotels under one operating and commercial platform without erasing their individual identities. Its strength came from houses such as The Dorchester, The Beverly Hills Hotel, Le Meurice and Hôtel Plaza Athénée rather than from a newly invented hotel concept. The collection later expanded selectively through Coworth Park, 45 Park Lane, Hotel Bel-Air, Hotel Eden and The Lana. By August 2026 it operates ten hotels in five countries.
The brand
Dorchester Collection is a London-based ultra-luxury operator within Dorchester Group Limited. UK corporate records identify the Brunei Investment Agency as a person with significant control over Dorchester Group. The collection combines hotels associated with long-term group ownership and properties developed with outside partners. Its platform supplies management, distribution, service culture and brand standards while individual hotel names remain dominant.
The current portfolio consists of The Dorchester, 45 Park Lane and Coworth Park in the United Kingdom; Le Meurice and Hôtel Plaza Athénée in France; Hotel Principe di Savoia and Hotel Eden in Italy; The Beverly Hills Hotel and Hotel Bel-Air in the United States; and The Lana in the United Arab Emirates. Official materials describe the collection simply as ten hotels. Tokyo and The Alba in Dubai are both under development for 2028 and are excluded from the operating count.
Philosophy
Dorchester Collection’s corporate philosophy is built around We Care and the values of passion, personality, respect, working together and creativity. At hotel level, that translates into a style of service intended to feel warm and individual rather than scripted. The group explicitly protects the legacy of each property while asking it to remain relevant to contemporary guests, so history is treated as a living asset rather than a fixed museum display.
The second principle is individuality. The Dorchester does not need to resemble Le Meurice; Hotel Bel-Air does not need to resemble The Lana. The shared promise is carried by care, discretion, food and beverage, cultural relevance and high-touch service. This allows the collection to combine palaces, city landmarks, a country estate and a contemporary Dubai tower without forcing them into one visual language.
What distinguishes it
Legendary names before the masterbrand. Several hotels in the collection possess identities older and more famous than Dorchester Collection itself. The corporate brand succeeds by supporting those names rather than competing with them.
Ownership gives patience. The relationship with Brunei Investment Agency provides a long-term capital base that supports major restorations and selective expansion without the pressure to build a large franchise network.
Service culture is the connective tissue. Because architecture and interiors vary dramatically, consistency depends on people. The We Care philosophy and shared values function as the collection’s operational brand language.
Renovation is strategic. The Dorchester’s multi-year renewal, Hotel Bel-Air’s restoration and continuing investment at Hotel Principe di Savoia show that the group uses capital to keep historic assets culturally and commercially current.
Growth remains selective. The Lana became only the tenth hotel when it opened in 2024. Tokyo and The Alba are scheduled for 2028, indicating that new development is intended to add landmark properties rather than network density.
Dorchester Collection is a weak fit for travellers who want a large global footprint, points-based loyalty or predictable visual standardisation. The collection is intentionally small, and its strongest houses carry pronounced local and historical identities. Guests seeking severe minimalism may find some palace hotels too decorative, while travellers prioritising resort breadth or frequent one-brand coverage across many destinations will find larger ultra-luxury operators easier to use.
