Fauchon entered hotels in 2018 with a 54-room property on Place de la Madeleine, where Auguste Fauchon had begun the food house in 1886. Kyoto followed in March 2021 with 59 rooms and made the concept international. The operating portfolio is still only two hotels, while Diriyah is under construction and Jeddah and Dubai residences remain in development. Fauchon Hospitality is an expansion of a gastronomy maison, not yet a conventional hotel network.

The brand

Fauchon Hospitality was created to turn the food universe into a repeatable hotel format. Paris is the prototype: 54 rooms and suites, Grand Café Fauchon, a beauty spa and a complimentary Gourmet Bar. Kyoto follows the same logic: 59 rooms plus Grand Café, Salon de Thé, Pâtisserie & Boutique, spa and bar, with Japanese materials and references. Paris belongs to The Leading Hotels of the World; Kyoto is operated by World Brands Collection Hotels & Resorts.

The operating model is partnership-led. Fauchon Hospitality supplies concept, identity, design guidance, operating standards and the culinary framework, while local owners and operators execute each property. Diriyah broke ground in November 2024 and is under construction with 85 keys; the pipeline also includes a Jeddah hotel with serviced apartments and villas, and a Dubai residential project with 49 private apartments. Announced development should not be confused with the two-house operating portfolio.

Philosophy

The founding idea is that gastronomy should organise the stay rather than sit inside the hotel as one department. Fauchon calls the model GLAM — Gourmet, Location, Attentions by Artisans, and Mesdames. Food therefore appears in the room, welcome, restaurant, boutique and service language. The complimentary Gourmet Bar is the clearest device: a private display of the maison's sweet and savoury products rather than a conventional minibar.

The philosophy allows local adaptation. Kyoto's “Fauchon Meets Kyoto” combines the house colours with bamboo, sakura motifs, washi paper and Japanese interpretations of French food. Diriyah pairs Parisian pastry with Najdi architecture and courtyard life. Ownership changed in 2024 when the Tacquard family's Galapagos Group acquired Fauchon, while the hospitality platform retained its food-first identity.

What distinguishes it

Gastronomy is the infrastructure. Many luxury hotels have famous restaurants; Fauchon begins with a food maison and builds the hotel around it. Pastry, tea, boutique retail, room amenities and restaurant concepts all originate from the same brand system.

The Gourmet Bar. The complimentary in-room Gourmet Bar turns a normally generic minibar into a curated Fauchon cabinet, making the brand present even when the guest is alone in the room.

Paris is the academy. Fauchon Hospitality treats the Madeleine hotel as the model and training base for future properties, giving the brand a defined reference house.

Local culture enters through food. Kyoto does not simply place French decoration in Japan: Japanese tea culture, ingredients, water, materials and visual references are brought into the Fauchon system. Diriyah is being developed through the same method with Najdi architecture and outdoor living.

A maison before a chain. Fauchon had more than a century of consumer recognition before opening a hotel. Its teas, pastries, colours and retail language give the hospitality concept an identity before service begins; the trade-off is almost no geographic choice today.

WHO FAUCHON L'HÔTEL IS NOT FOR

Fauchon L'Hôtel is the wrong choice for a traveller who wants anonymous minimalism, a large loyalty network, extensive resort infrastructure or a hotel experience in which food is secondary. It is also a weak fit for guests who dislike branded interiors or who do not respond to pâtisserie, tea and the ritual of eating as part of luxury. In Paris and Kyoto, much of the premium rests on enjoying the Fauchon universe itself; travellers who want the hotel to disappear behind the destination can find more neutral five-star alternatives in both cities.
