Starhotels Collezione is the luxury collection within Starhotels, the Italian family hospitality company founded in Florence in 1980 by Ferruccio Fabri. Rather than build a separate luxury brand from a single prototype, Starhotels created Collezione to bring together the group's most representative properties: historic palazzi, grand city hotels and distinctive houses whose architecture and local identity are intentionally preserved. The official group profile currently defines Collezione as 17 iconic properties within a wider Starhotels portfolio of 34 hotels. Italy remains the cultural centre, but London, Paris and New York give the collection a selective international dimension.
The brand
Starhotels remains a family-rooted Italian company and is now led by Elisabetta Fabri, President and CEO and daughter of founder Ferruccio Fabri. Since the 2000s the group has expanded through major renovations and strategic acquisitions in Italy and key international cities. Collezione emerged as the upper luxury expression of that growth, separating the group's iconic houses from Starhotels Premium while preserving access to shared distribution, reservations and I AM STAR loyalty.
The official Collezione profile describes 17 architectural jewels with individual personalities and histories. The current ecosystem includes Hotel d'Inghilterra in Rome; Helvetia & Bristol in Florence; Hermitage Hotel & Resort in Forte dei Marmi; The Franklin, The Gore and The Pelham in London; Rosa Grand in Milan; Castille in Paris; The Michelangelo in New York; Terme di Saturnia; Grand Hotel Continental in Siena; Savoia Excelsior Palace in Trieste; Splendid Venice and Hotel Gabrielli in Venice; and Hotel Villa Michelangelo near Vicenza, alongside luxury apartments and Villa La Favorita in the Hamptons. The operating presentation is therefore broader than a simple hotel count, but the controlling group figure remains 17 Collezione hotels.
Philosophy
The defining idea is Italian Living. Starhotels Collezione describes its houses through timeless elegance, meticulous attention to detail, personalised hospitality and an Italian spirit expressed through creativity, passion and service. Crucially, this does not mean exporting one Italian interior style to every country. The Gore and The Pelham remain distinctly London; Castille participates in Parisian life; The Michelangelo belongs to New York. Italian identity is carried more through hospitality, design sensibility, food, craftsmanship and curation than through literal visual replication.
Craftsmanship has become an especially visible part of the philosophy. The group's La Grande Bellezza -- The Dream Factory initiative and Collezione Craft Experiences connect guests with Italian artisans and workshops in destinations including Venice, Milan, Florence, Rome, Vicenza and Trieste. Luxury is therefore framed not only as accommodation but as access to living cultural skills.
What distinguishes it
A collection inside a group. Collezione benefits from the scale of a 34-property parent company while retaining a curated 17-hotel luxury identity. This gives it more infrastructure than a tiny independent collection without forcing every Starhotels property into the luxury tier.
Italianity without uniformity. The collection exports Italian hospitality and aesthetic judgement while allowing British, French, American and local Italian houses to preserve their own architectural personalities.
Craft is operational content. La Grande Bellezza and Craft Experiences make artisanship a guest-facing product rather than merely a decorative theme.
Heritage is actively renewed. Major renovations and reopenings — including Hotel d'Inghilterra and Hotel Gabrielli — show a strategy of reinvesting in historic buildings rather than relying only on inherited prestige.
The collection spans city, coast and wellness. Metropolitan hotels dominate, but Hermitage at Forte dei Marmi and Terme di Saturnia broaden the product into seaside leisure and destination wellness.
Starhotels Collezione is a weaker fit for travellers seeking ultra-low-density retreat luxury, private-island seclusion or a globally standardised palace product. The collection is predominantly urban and heritage-led, and the hotels vary considerably in scale, age, architecture and atmosphere. Guests who want every property to feel identical may prefer a more tightly codified global brand. Collezione works best for travellers who value Italian hospitality, historic city centres, architecture, craftsmanship, gastronomy, personalised service and hotels whose individual identity is more important than visual brand uniformity.

Editorial note — Code and book number follow LHL Register v50.0, which places Starhotels Collezione at LHL-081 / P1-05-18 in Volume V — Established Luxury Houses, Single-Market section. The Register is the controlling source for code and classification. Current official Starhotels materials reviewed in August 2026 describe Starhotels as founded in 1980 by Ferruccio Fabri and now led by President and CEO Elisabetta Fabri. The parent group currently states 34 properties and more than 4,500 rooms and luxury residences, while Starhotels Collezione is defined as 17 iconic properties. The Collezione website additionally presents luxury apartments and Villa La Favorita within its ecosystem; these are not used to inflate the controlling 17-hotel figure. The current proprietary loyalty programme is I AM STAR. From July 2026 it has a strategic reciprocal-benefits partnership with Taj InnerCircle -- NeuPass; Loyalty remains recorded as Proprietary — I AM STAR. Register v50.0.
