Maisons & Hôtels Sibuet is a French family hospitality collection whose identity was formed in Megève and later extended from the Alps to Provence, Saint-Tropez and Saint-Barth. The story began in 1981 when Jocelyne and Jean-Louis Sibuet took over a small boutique hotel in Megève and began developing a more intimate, personal interpretation of mountain hospitality. Les Fermes de Marie followed in 1989 and became the defining house of the Sibuet art of living. Today the collection brings together six principal hotels, luxury chalets and villas, beach houses, restaurants, spas, a wine estate and lifestyle concepts. Its defining idea is not scale but atmosphere: places intended to feel intimate, convivial, authentic, elegant without stiffness and unmistakably shaped by one family.

The brand

The Sibuet story developed through a sequence of highly individual houses. After the early Megève beginnings, Les Fermes de Marie established the family's alpine signature in 1989. Hôtel Mont-Blanc followed under Sibuet stewardship from 1994, and Lodge Park arrived two years later with a more adventurous, lodge-inspired identity. The family then moved south to La Bastide de Marie in the vineyards of Ménerbes and Villa Marie Saint-Tropez above the Bay of Pampelonne, before extending the collection to Saint-Barth through Gyp Sea.

Since 2011, Marie and Nicolas Sibuet have carried the family footprint into a second generation. The official collection today centres on four destinations — Megève, Ménerbes, Saint-Tropez and Saint-Barth — and six principal hotels: Les Fermes de Marie, Lodge Park, Hôtel Mont-Blanc, La Bastide de Marie, Villa Marie Saint-Tropez and Gyp Sea Hotel. Around them sits a wider residential and lifestyle ecosystem including Les Chalets des Fermes, serviced properties at Domaine de Marie, Gyp Sea Beach Houses, restaurants, spas, Pure Altitude skincare and Domaine de Marie wines.

Philosophy

Maisons & Hôtels Sibuet describes itself through an Art de Vivre rather than a conventional hotel standard. The family's official language emphasises timeless charm, intimacy, conviviality, simplicity and chic. Luxury is deliberately presented as something personal and irregular rather than smooth or standardised: no house is the same, and each destination is expected to retain its own mood.

The deeper philosophy is domestic. Sibuet states that its houses are filled with what the family itself loves, creating environments that reflect a home rather than a corporate design manual. Shared meals, tactile materials, collected objects, flowers, fireplaces, gardens, local food, wine, spa rituals and seasonal living become part of the hospitality language. The result is a recognisable Sibuet atmosphere without requiring identical architecture.

What distinguishes it

The family is the brand. Jocelyne and Jean-Louis created the original language; Marie and Nicolas now carry it forward. Ownership, design taste, food, wellness and destination choices remain visibly connected to the family.

Each house has its own personality. Alpine hamlet, trapper lodge, historic Megève hotel, Provençal wine estate, Riviera villa and Caribbean beach house are deliberately different expressions rather than copies of one template.

Lifestyle businesses reinforce the hotels. Pure Altitude spa and skincare, Domaine de Marie wine, restaurants, chalets, villas and beach houses make Sibuet broader than a six-hotel collection while remaining coherent around one art of living.

Megève remains the emotional centre. Three principal hotels, chalets, restaurants, spa and other concepts give the family unusually deep presence in one Alpine destination.

Luxury is intentionally unceremonious. The official philosophy rejects stiffness in favour of generosity, authenticity, comfort and shared moments — refined, but never dependent on formal grand-hotel ritual.

WHO MAISONS & HÔTELS SIBUET IS NOT FOR

Maisons & Hôtels Sibuet is a weaker fit for travellers seeking a broad global network, identical hotel hardware, formal palace ceremony or a points-driven loyalty ecosystem. The collection is small, family-specific and highly decorative, and several properties depend strongly on seasonal destination culture. Guests who prefer neutral international design or predictable chain standards may find the houses too individual. Sibuet works best for travellers who value family ownership, French art de vivre, alpine and Mediterranean atmosphere, residential interiors, food and wine, wellness, repeat seasonal stays and hotels that feel collected over time rather than manufactured as a brand.
