Divan Hotels

Divan Hotels is one of Türkiye's foundational modern hospitality names, created in Istanbul in 1956 by Vehbi Koç and developed within the wider Koç business tradition.

Divan Hotels is one of Türkiye's foundational modern hospitality names, created in Istanbul in 1956 by Vehbi Koç and developed within the wider Koç business tradition. The first Divan Hotel opened in Taksim with 98 rooms and established a model that combined modern international hotel standards with Turkish hospitality, food and social culture. Over subsequent decades Divan expanded beyond hotels into restaurants, patisserie and chocolate, catering and event venues, turning the name into a broader hospitality institution. Official Divan materials state that the group reached 17 hotels with the opening of Divan Ankara in 2022, while its current operating footprint continues to evolve in Türkiye and selected international markets.

The brand

Divan is structurally broader than a conventional hotel chain. Hotels remain the historic core, but restaurants, cafeterias, confectionery production, catering and event businesses form an integrated hospitality ecosystem. This breadth is important to the brand's identity because food and social hosting have never been secondary to the hotel operation.

The flagship Istanbul story is equally important. The original 1956 Divan Hotel in Taksim was later transformed and expanded; official sustainability materials describe the modern property as a 191-room hotel following its 2010 redevelopment. From this institutional base, Divan developed hotels in Ankara, Istanbul districts, major Turkish commercial centres and resort destinations, while also taking the brand abroad. The result is a Turkish hospitality house with corporate scale but a strong national cultural centre.

Philosophy

Divan's philosophy is built around continuity, perfection and the transformation of ordinary hospitality moments into memorable ones. Current corporate language describes a spirit carried "from one generation to another" and a vision of perfection maintained from the first day. This connects the hotel business to the longer Koç tradition of institutional management and service.

Food is inseparable from this philosophy. Divan's restaurants, pastry, chocolate and catering operations make gastronomy part of the operating DNA rather than simply an amenity inside hotels. The service style combines Turkish warmth and social generosity with the precision expected from an established corporate hospitality company.

What distinguishes it

The brand predates Türkiye's modern international hotel boom. A 1956 foundation gives Divan unusual institutional depth in the domestic hospitality market.

Vehbi Koç is part of the origin story. The connection with one of Türkiye's most important business figures and the wider Koç tradition gives Divan a corporate heritage unlike that of many independently assembled hotel groups.

Hospitality extends beyond rooms. Restaurants, patisserie, chocolate, catering and event venues make Divan a hospitality ecosystem rather than only a hotel operator.

Istanbul is the emotional centre. The Taksim flagship and the city's wider Divan presence anchor the brand in Türkiye's principal international metropolis.

The portfolio spans business and leisure. City hotels and corporate demand coexist with resort and destination hospitality, giving Divan a broader operating range than a pure urban luxury collection.

WHO DIVAN HOTELS IS NOT FOR

Divan Hotels is a weaker fit for travellers seeking a globally dense luxury network, a tightly standardised ultra-luxury product or a small founder-led boutique collection. The portfolio is broader in tier and purpose, with business, city, resort and other hospitality formats. Its strongest relevance is in Türkiye and nearby or selected international markets rather than worldwide coverage. Divan works best for travellers who value Turkish hospitality, strong food culture, established city hotels, substantial event and business infrastructure, national brand recognition and the reassurance of a long-standing corporate hospitality institution.

Editorial note — Code and book number follow LHL Register v50.0, which places Divan Hotels at LHL-083 / P1-05-20 in Volume V — Established Luxury Houses, Single-Market section. The Register is the controlling source for code and classification. Official Divan materials reviewed for this Master state that founder Vehbi Koç established the first Divan Hotel in Taksim, Istanbul in 1956 with 98 rooms; the flagship was transformed into a 191-room property in 2010. The same official sustainability report states that the opening of Divan Ankara in 2022 brought the group to 17 hotels. A current Divan export catalogue describes the business as having begun with hotels and expanded into restaurants, cafeterias and confectionery production. Because the active portfolio continues to evolve, the 17-hotel figure is treated as an officially documented milestone rather than an unverified frozen 2026 count.
