White Elephant Resorts

White Elephant Resorts is an American luxury hospitality collection rooted in Nantucket and now extended to Palm Beach and Aspen.

White Elephant Resorts is an American luxury hospitality collection rooted in Nantucket and now extended to Palm Beach and Aspen. Formerly known as Nantucket Island Resorts, the group adopted the White Elephant Resorts name while retaining the same ownership, leadership and service culture. Its identity grew from a cluster of distinctive Nantucket addresses — waterfront resort, historic inn, secluded coastal hotel, cottages and marina — rather than from a standardised chain model. White Elephant Palm Beach opened in 2020, and White Elephant Aspen is now open, giving the collection a third destination and its first presence in the American West.

The brand

White Elephant Resorts describes itself as a hospitality management group and a collection of unique boutique hotels and luxury resorts. Its core lodging portfolio comprises White Elephant Nantucket, The Wauwinet, Jared Coffin House, The Cottages at Nantucket Boat Basin, White Elephant Palm Beach and White Elephant Aspen. Nantucket Boat Basin adds a 240-slip full-service marina to the wider hospitality ecosystem, while residences, cottages, suites and lofts broaden the accommodation formats.

The collection remains distinctly American and destination-led. Nantucket supplies its historic New England and coastal identity; Palm Beach translates the White Elephant name into a restored Mediterranean-revival landmark in South Florida; Aspen introduces a mountain-contemporary expression. The continuity comes from personalised service, residential comfort, design, complimentary amenities, destination access and a hospitality style intended to feel refined without becoming overly formal.

Philosophy

White Elephant Resorts builds its service philosophy around generosity, personal attention and ease. The group repeatedly emphasises a spirit of hospitality and the idea that thoughtful service should remove friction from the stay. Complimentary bicycles, local transportation, beach equipment, concierge support and the absence of resort fees are practical expressions of this approach rather than decorative luxury gestures.

Destination immersion is equally important. The collection encourages guests to experience Nantucket's beaches, harbour, food culture and historic streets; Palm Beach's architecture, Atlantic coast and Worth Avenue; and Aspen's mountain, cultural and après-ski life. The hotels function as gateways into their destinations rather than self-contained resorts isolated from them. Pre-arrival concierge service extends this philosophy by arranging transport, dining, spa, tours and local activities before the guest arrives.

What distinguishes it

Nantucket is the foundation. The collection has unusual depth on one small island, combining several hotel types, cottages and a major marina within a single destination ecosystem.

Historic and contemporary formats coexist. Jared Coffin House carries Nantucket history; The Wauwinet is a secluded coastal retreat; White Elephant Nantucket is a harbourside resort; Palm Beach reinterprets a 1920s landmark; Aspen uses a new mountain-contemporary design.

Complimentary amenities are structural. The group explicitly positions no resort fees, bicycles, local transportation, beach services and concierge support as part of the hospitality promise.

Residential accommodation matters. Cottages, residences, lofts and large suites give the collection strong relevance for families and longer stays and blur the boundary between boutique hotel and private coastal residence.

Expansion remains selective. Palm Beach and Aspen extend the name beyond Nantucket without creating a large national chain, allowing White Elephant to retain a compact, owner-shaped collection identity.

WHO WHITE ELEPHANT RESORTS IS NOT FOR

White Elephant Resorts is a weaker fit for travellers seeking a global network, a conventional points-and-status loyalty ecosystem, a uniform hotel format or an ultra-luxury resort system built around extreme privacy and formal ceremony. Its properties vary considerably in scale and style, and the collection remains concentrated in a small number of U.S. leisure destinations. Guests who prioritise worldwide consistency may prefer a large international operator. White Elephant works best for travellers who value American coastal or mountain destinations, personal service, residential comfort, families, local experiences, historic character and luxury that feels polished but relatively relaxed.

Editorial note — Code and book number follow LHL Register v50.0, which places White Elephant Resorts at LHL-053 / P1-04-12 in Volume IV — Local Ultra-Boutique & Private Collections. Current operating information was checked against official White Elephant Resorts and White Elephant Aspen materials in August 2026. The collection currently comprises six core lodging properties: White Elephant Nantucket, The Wauwinet, Jared Coffin House, The Cottages at Nantucket Boat Basin, White Elephant Palm Beach and White Elephant Aspen; Nantucket Boat Basin is treated separately as the collection's marina rather than a lodging property. The group was previously named Nantucket Island Resorts and states that ownership, leadership and service culture remained unchanged through the renaming. No public collection-wide loyalty programme is presented; Loyalty is therefore recorded as None. Register v50.0.
